The Destinations
Drinking
- Maglianero - 47 Maple St.
- Stop in for some coffee and enjoy the pleasant vibes here at Maglianero Cafe as they seek to provide you with the juices to fuel the "modern mobility movement." As a side note, they like bikes and apparently have the world's shortest bike path.
- Magic Hat Brewing Company - 5 Bartlett Bay Rd.
- Tour the Magic Hat "Artifactory" and see what craziness they are up in this South Burlington Brewery. Oh, and in case you didn't know, try the beer! (Be aware that this stop is a little off the main path, so for those wishing to skip Magic Hat, an alternative route has been set up. For those who do attempt it, don't be shy from taking the sidewalk on Shelburne Rd if you feel uncomfortable on the road).
- Switchback Brewing Company - 160 Flynn Ave.
- Switchback was founded in 2002 and continue to produce solid beers to this day, with Switchback ale being their first and most recognized beer. Tours are only at 1pm and 2pm on Saturdays, but the retail store is open all days but Sunday.
Eating
- Handy's Lunch - 74 Maple St.
- Stop in for some breakfast or lunch food at Handy's and enjoy a classic diner experience. Excellent place to run into locals, get some tourist info, and find out what's going on round the town.
- Union Jacks - 370 Shelburne Rd.
- This locally owned and operated sub and sandwich shop services up some classic sandwiches (with a British twist) in addition to fish and chips.
- Beansie's Bus - Battery Park, 1 Sherman St.
- Beansie's is called by many a local landmark. Operating since 1944, Beansie's Bus is actually an old retrofitted school bus that serves up such fare as hot dogs, hamburgers, and fries. You will find them at Battery Park from spring until fall.
Eating and Drinking
- The Vermont Pub and Brewery - 144 College St.
- Time to visit the oldest craft brewery in Vermont! Enjoy one of their many beers along with a large selection of food; anything from a entree to a Vermont cheese selection.
- American Flatbread - 115 St. Paul St.
- American Flatbread makes various flatbreads, all of which are made from organically grown wheat. They also feature the Zero Gravity Tap Room where they serve the many delicious beers they brew.
Biking
- Island Line Rail Trail
- The 12.5 mile rail trail skirts the waterfront of Burlington and provides views of the Adirondack Mountains across Lake Champlain. While only a small southern part of the trail is included in the tour, feel free to explore the remaining miles which go north and cuts over the lake on an old marble Colchester Causeway.
- Church Street
- The transformation of church street to a pedestrian paradise was completed in 1981 and is considered a gem of the city. You cannot ride your bike down the pedestrian mall (fines are about $50) but it is just as pleasant to walk with your bike and look at the stores and people.
- South Burlington Rec Trail
- This recreational trail provides a pleasant way to bike between Burlington and South Burlington. It offers various landscapes; one minute you will going under an overpass, then you'll be among fields, next a forest.
- University of Vermont
- Follow the paths around the University of Vermont. Take your time here and explore; there is no need to follow any defined route.
