How to go on BED Tours
These are self-guided tours that we created based on our own travel in the United States. We combined our love of traveling, rust belt cities, food, beer, coffee, and up-close tourism to create each tour. The inspiration came from a visit to Detroit, where we participated in our very first BED tour! You can follow our BED tours using our website, printable PDFs (available soon), and google maps. Also consider using these tours as inspiration for your own trips. Add your own stops, cut out stops that don't interest you, or just try out a restaurant or two if you happen to be in town!
Some things to be aware of on BED tours:
- Be safe biking. If you are biking at night, get a light. Watch out for traffic, as a majority of the tours are on city streets.
- If you have one too many beers at a location and are starting to feel a bit drunk, do not get on the bike! You could hurt yourself and in many cases it is against the law; a lot of cities will write tickets for "biking under the influence". A few ways to try and stay steady:
- Try to alternate between eating and drinking. If you at a place with both eating and drinking, sometimes consider only eating.
- Whenever you are drinking or eating, have a water as well. You are bike riding, so it never hurts to be more hydrated.
- There's no shame in sharing beers, getting half-pints (when available), etc.
- If you are feeling drunk, wait until you are back to equilibrium or just walk to the next location.
- Check location hours before your trip! Some places are only open weekends, only open for lunch, etc. We try to include the hours for tour locations with weird open times, but save yourself the disappointment and double check before heading out!
