Fun Resources

Want to explore more of what these cities have to offer for those looking to bike, eat, and drink? Or maybe you just want to know more about the cities themselves. There's fun books, blogs, articles, and more out there worth checking out, here are a few that we enjoy:

Portland, Or:
  • Hop in the Saddle- This guidebook details some fun biking beer tours of Portland. The beer stops include breweries, bottle shops, and bar/restaurants and the bike tours cover the main "beer areas" of Portland while also providing extended versions for those more intense bikers.
  • Portland Beer: Crafting the Road to Beervana- This book by Pete Dunlop provides a detailed, but not overly fact laden, history of beer in Portland from the early years through the creation of the craft beer culture that exits today.
Philadelphia, PA:
  • Hidden City Philadelphia- This Philadelphia organization attempts to provide some history, insight, and understanding to the city's most remarkable places. Their online publication has multiple posts each week and they also hold tours and events for those looking to immerse themselves even further.
  • Philly Beer Scene- The beer magazine for all things craft beer in Philadelphia and its environs. It was started in 2009 and is printed bi-monthly. You'll find in many bars but if you do not live around Philadelphia, all articles are online.
  • Streets Dept- This blog focuses on street art, abandoned buildings, and other fun things throughout the city of Philadelphia.
  • Connect the Circuit- The website for the planned 750+ miles of bike and pedestrian trails that is planned for the greater Philadelphia area. Over 250 miles have been built so far.
  • The PhillyHistory Blog- This blog searches through the city archives, among other sources, for history about all different aspects of the city.
Rochester, NY:
  • Rochester SubwayRochester blog with frequent posts about the city's history, ongoing issues, upcoming changes, and more. The goal is to spark dialogue around connecting the city's neighborhoods, surrounding area, and culture.
